Potassium Silicate 1312-76-1 Properties and application:
Potassium silicate, also known as potassium water glass, is a colorless, slightly colored transparent or translucent viscous liquid with a pH of 11~13. The relative density and viscosity of the product vary with the product model, the relative density is between 1.16 ~ 1.45 (20 ℃). Potassium silicate can dissolve in water and alkaline solution, insoluble in alcohol and organic solvents, and free gel by interaction with acid. It can react with the hydrophilic group on the surface to form a film. For example, it can react with the surface hydroxyl groups of glass, cellulose and other substances to form a film by chemical reaction and can enter into soft glass. The larger the modulus, the higher the viscosity and strength of potassium water glass, but the solubility in water decreases; the smaller the modulus, the better the film-forming properties of water glass.
Used in the manufacture of welding electrodes, welding electrodes, vat dyes and waterproofing agents. Used as a fluorescent powder binder and soap filler for fluorescent screens. Used as an accelerator in concrete admixtures.
